This seems like a mission impossible.. We are using an ancient Fisher receiver to connect all the components in our entertainment system, including our Comcast DVR box and Vizio TV. I've been searching for a code so that I can program my comcast 3-device remote control to operate the Fisher receiver (at least the power and volume). So far my search has yielded no results, but I'm not giving up! When we had Dish network only a couple of years ago, we were able to program that remote to the Fisher receiver by doing a code search, but that trick has not worked for the Comcast remote. Anyone out there have any advice??

try the following codes, 30042, 30219, 30360, 30797, 31251, 31801, 30801, 31469,
the volume probably won't work until you do the following:
1. aud or aux
2. press and hold SET for two blinks
3. enter 9 9 3
4. press VOL DOWN

Oh, Edmund, thanks so much for your efforts to help! Unfortunately, none of those codes were successful. I noticed that I would get the long red light (indicating an incorrect code) after entering the 4th digit of the code, so I really wasn't able to try the entire 5 digit code. Any thoughts, or is this a lost cause?

If you remote only takes 4 digit codes, you would drop the first digit, not the last. makes them 0042, 0219, 0360, 0797, 1251, 1801, 0801, 1469.

More than likely, none of those codes are built in to the Comcast remote. However, it is not totally a lost cause, depending on how much you want to get the Comcast remote working with your Fisher receiver. If you look inside the battery compartment of the remote, you will see a 6 pin header. That is used by the remote manufacturer to add new codes to the remote not built in. People over at JP1 remote site have figured out how to connect that header to a PC and turn the remote into a PC programmable remote so that you can add your own upgrades. The Comcast remote is what they call JP1.2 remote. You can make or buy your own JP1.2 cable and use the applications you can download from the JP1 site to add an upgrade for your receiver. If you want to read more about it, start here.
The problem is that there isn't an upgrade file for Fisher receiver yet on the JP1 site, so even with a JP1.2 cable, you wouldn't have an upgrade file to upload to your remote. Normally, you would need a learning JP1 remote to get the info needed from the OEM remote to make the upgrade file in that case, and the Comcast remote doesn't have a learning function. However, if you want to try somewhat of a trial and error method, I can recreate all the codes above (0042, 0219, 0360, 0797, 1251, 1801, 0801, 1469) to make upgrade files for each for you to try. I also found this file for LIRC, which can be translated to JP1 upgrade file for you to try (actually, it more or less matches the ir codes for 0042).

Thanks, Kupakai (and Edmund). You were right, those codes did not work. And to be quite honest, the rest of what you explained is a bit over my head. However, I'll run it past my husband and see if it makes sense to his technical mind. I really appreciate you both taking the time to help me out!
